Any Tommy Emmanuel fans out there?   

I just received the sheet music and tab for Tommy Emmanuel’s Endless Road CD.   It’s published by Mel Bay and can be ordered through Mel Bay or Tommy’s website. The book is well layed out and nicely spiral bound and contains 15 of the songs contained on the Endless Road CD.

Just what I need. Another Tommy E book. If I want to feel that bad about my playing ability I could just try the book I already have.

BTW - I bought his first book at a concert and he signed it for me. Yes, I am a big fan.

It was just a few months ago I was tuned into Tommy Emmanuel by Tony Karol. Got his Endless Road CD and still in wow!

His rendition of Somewhere Over the Rainbow is the best arrangement of that tune I have ever heard...I like it better than Chet Atkins version.

It is intimidating as I just took a stab at that tune. I think the key to getting it is breaking it down into bite size proportions. Set a goal of getting a couple measures per practice session till you have the rythym and fingering down. I'll report back in a year or so and let you know how I make out....

Steve, thanks for making me discover Eva Cassidy, she has an Angel voice, very relaxing music!

I'm now listening to Fields of gold and what a great version of it!

Tommy is one of my favorite guitar heros... I really like his take on Julian Lennon's 'Saltwater'... Or anything that he does really...

Thanks for the heads-up Anthony... I'm tackling some Don Ross at the moment but I'll want to try some Tommy as well, being a sucker for punishment and all that...

This Tommy guy is huge, i just love watching him on Youtube.com, him, Don Ross and Howard Emerson are at the top of my list for favorite players!

Youtube.com what a great resource. I settled on trying to learn Angelina and there are great video clips of Tommy playing it as well as a couple giving a lesson on the tune.   Between swapping PM's with Sergio yesterday I had the sheet music up beside my PC screen trying to learn the first 8 bars.

(Boy do I suck -- but will keep at it )

Tommy seems to be a great influence to kids from 7-77 and up, he not only have talent passed his grey hair but the guy has style and charisma which makes him a very interesting to watch! If this guy ever comes to Canada Man, i want to know where and i'll goeven if i have to sell something to pay for my tickets!         

Yup, that sounds like a plan Serge... If ever Tommy comes back (he was in Toronto this summer) we'll go and catch him...

Anthony, I only hope I can do Don Ross the slightest justice... I sometimes feel pretty bad at mangling his songs...

Alain - did you purchase Don Ross's instructional DVD? I've got it and viewed it a couple of times -- looks like it is worth purchasing as he does a number of tunes breaking things down bar by bar.

I got to see Tommy a few years ago when I was in California. John How and I were within arm's reach of him during his performance. He is an amazing performer and one of the very best guitarists I've ever heard (actually he's the best!).

Anthony, you mentioned "Somewhere Over the Rainbow". I couldn't agree with you more about how fantastic his rendition is. It was one of the more moving pieces he did in concert.

He is definitely a MUST SEE!!!

Anthony, I haven't gotten around to getting the DVD yet. I did however purchase a few 'official' tabs from gobyfish.com... (Thin Air and Catherine) and a good friend of mine has the tabs for Michael Michael Michael and Berkley Springs. I will get the DVD though... Must help a lot...

Tommy Emmanuel was in Toronto in June and played at the Royal Conservatory of Music. I had 4 - 8th row seats and had to make the choice between seeing Tommy or golfing with my brother and brother-in-law that weekend. Family and golf won, but Tricia went and took 3 friends who had never heard of Tommy Emmanuel. All of them were instant fans and I got a signed Endless Road CD -- oh well not too bad an outcome. I hear he will be in Toronto in 2007 and will try my darnest not to miss him again.

JJ I totally agree with you -- he is now my favorite fingerstyle guitarist bar none. (I am still a big Jerry Reed and Chet Atkins fan as is T Emmanuel). I was wowed by Don Ross when I saw him -- but his style feels very mechanical sounding in comparison to Emmanuel. My kids think Tommy is great too. For Thanksgiving dinner I put one of his CD's on and even Mom and Dad were impressed. It's great for an artist to have as wide an age group appeal as witnessed in my own home (8 to 77).

JJ- you'll chuckle -- it's the old your eyes are bigger than your stomach syndrome. I cracked the book open to "Somewhere Over the Rainbow" looked at the cascading harmonics at the beginning and then quickly proceeded to "Angelina" which is way easier but still a struggle for me. If I don't whup you at golf in Missouri this spring -- I'll try to wow you with my rendition of Angelina -- I suspect per hour spent I might have a better chance on the golf course (provided you give me the adequate number of strokes) as even Angelina is giving me fits.   So here I am trying to learn Angelina on an Archtop guitar thinking -- if only I had an OM built Or better yet a Bubinga OLF SJ (I know I have no shame).

Alain I can't recommend the Don Ross DVD enough -- it's really well done. On some of the more difficult bars the DVD does a split screen showing a close up of each his left and right hand.
